Nylon glass fiber material is a kind of composite material, adding glass fiber on the basis of the original nylon material so that the material has the following characteristics: High-temperature resistance, good dimensional stability, good toughness, good insulation, corrosion resistance, and high mechanical strength.
Its properties are similar to PA11, but its crystal structure is different. PA12 is a good electrical insulator and will not be affected by moisture as other polyamides. It has good impact resistance mechanical and chemical stability. There are many improved varieties of PA12 in terms of plasticizing and reinforcing properties. Compared with PA6 and PA66, these materials have lower melting points and density and have very high moisture recovery. PA12 has no resistance to strong oxidizing acids. The viscosity of PA12 depends mainly on humidity, temperature, and storage time. It's very liquid. The shrinkage rate is between 0.5% and 2%, depending on the material type, wall thickness, and other process conditions. Typical applications of PA12 polyamide 12 or nylon 12 include water meters and other commercial equipment, cable sleeves, mechanical cams, sliding mechanisms, photovoltaic backplates, and bearings.

Physical property

PA12 injection molding process conditions
Drying treatment: The humidity should be ensured below 0.1% before processing. If the material is exposed to air storage, it is recommended to dry in 85℃ hot air for 4 to 5 hours. If the material is stored in an airtight container, it can be used directly after 3 hours of temperature equilibrium.
Melting temperature: 240~300℃; Do not exceed 310℃ for materials with ordinary characteristics, and do not exceed 270℃ for materials with flame retardant characteristics.
Mold temperature: 30~40℃ for unenhanced materials, 80~90℃ for thin-walled or large-area components, and 90~100℃ for enhanced materials. Increasing temperature will increase the crystallinity of the material. It is important for PA12 to accurately control the mold temperature.
Injection pressure: up to 1000 bar (low holding pressure and high melting temperature are recommended).
Injection speed: High speed (preferably for materials with glass additives).
Runner and gate: For materials without additives, the diameter of the runner should be about 30mm due to the low viscosity of the material. For the enhanced material requirements of a 5~8mm large runner diameter. The runner shape shall all be circular. The injection port should be as short as possible. A variety of gate forms can be used. Large plastic parts do not use the small gate, this is to avoid excessive pressure on plastic parts or excessive shrinkage rate. Gate thickness should be equal to the thickness of plastic parts. If a submerged gate is used, a minimum diameter of 0.8mm is recommended. Hot runner molds are effective, but require precise temperature control to prevent material from leaking or solidifying at the nozzle. If a hot runner is used, the gate size should be smaller than a cold runner.
